Outside Edge: "Human Software" Book Club Offer
|
Did anyone pick up a copy of Cat Hicks' Psychology of Software Teams this week? I'm reading it right now and will post a review soon. Lots to think about in there around resilience and sustainable software practice. I have a feeling that I'll be referring to it a lot! It's also made me realise that I talk about many similar themes in Human Software - on-call pressure, burnout, loss of trust at work, group dynamics, Conway's law, rubber ducking! It's all there. And so with that in mind, I've put together a free book club discussion guide for Human Software featuring icebreakers, themed questions, workshop prompts, the lot. If you're in a book club, run a team read at work, or just want some structured questions to chew on, it's yours to use. I've got some remaining stock of the original first-edition cover, and I'm offering it at a big discount for anyone ordering multiple copies - handy if you want to run this as a team or book club read. Tiers start at 5 copies. Just reply to this email if you want the pricing sheet. In other news I'm at 90% through first pass on my new book - One More Island. As I'm a keen sailor, there's a bit of sea action in this book just like there was in Human Software. And so, this week I've been reading two great books on east coast and channel sailing - mainly for research (cough cough) but I have also found myself subconsciously planning my first trip across the channel and perhaps up the Thames... It's sometimes the job of literature to take you out of yourself for a little while, and perhaps for you to learn something along the way. Reading these factual and scientific books this week, I've learnt a lot and I've done a lot of dreaming. Perhaps a timely reminder that it doesn't have to be a fiction for you to start wondering. Have a great Sunday! p.s. don't forget that you can now find me on SubStack |
